The forecast showed rain. –A lot of rain! It also said the temperature would be about 45 degrees. Due to several circumstances we could not reschedule, so we were all systems go! I made sure all my rain gear was packed—umbrellas, camera covers and plastic ponchos—we were going to make this session great despite the odds!
Renee and Justin are expecting their first baby in March—a wonderful month to be born in. (Shameless boast as Rene’s due date is only a few days after my birthday.) I remember being pregnant with my first baby and how special that season of my life was. I wanted to give Renee images to treasure this moment forever.
We had been deliberating locations for a few weeks and had concluded that Baker Beach was the right place for this incredibly important photoshoot! However, as the day approached, the forecast was telling us we should be anywhere but Baker Beach at 6:30am, unless we wanted to be soaked, freezing and miserable on a Saturday morning. We also had a minimum of a one-and-a-half hour drive from our respective homes. Never mind all that! This session was going to be awesome no matter what!
As I’m typing this, I’m grinning still in disbelief at just how awesome our morning was! The sky cleared up five minutes after we arrived. The rain moved past us and the sun came out. Our backdrop– at first only a promise of white fog at best–was the glimmering Golden Gate Bridge in all its glory.
Renee rocked her maternity session. Even with clear skies, the temperature was still in the high 40s and low 50s. Despite the cold, she shone as she shivered, and looked stunning with that rare glow that descends on a woman as she carries an unborn child. Meanwhile, the dress she chose for our session could not have been more on point! The color, the fit, the train, the veil…every bit stunning! I am googly-eyed looking at these photos. She made it look effortless despite the cold, and hopefully was pampered with a hot bath and cocoa afterward!
I’m so grateful that my job allows me to have experiences like this maternity photo session with Renee and Justin. I am honored that they trusted me for this moment in their lives. I wish them all the joy in the world as they receive their new bundle in their arms very soon!
